The Foxfire Gang
  • Tsukiko Kibou: A dangerously clever, troubled emo girl who is afflicted with the ability to perceive the nightmarish Nova, and pursues the conspiracy behind them. Ward of the KIBOU Nation, whom she bares the name of.
    Foxfire: born of the constellation Vulpecula; has the power to manipulate colour.

  • Ririka Miyazaki: Tsukiko's perpetually lovesick girlfriend and fellow KIBOU Nation servant, who works as a tailor. In spite of seeming weak-willed, she is endlessly loyal and hopeful.
    The Whispering Stars: born of the obsolete constellation Lilium; can transform objects into tools and living creatures based on other constellations.

  • Lavanya Weerasethakul: A free-spirit who has declared herself Tsukiko and Ririka's friend. She comes from a close-knit family and learned to fight in order to defend them.

  • Verity Godard: Tsukiko and Ririka's benefactor; an archaeologist whose morality is centred around scientific knowledge.
    Sunset Boulevard: born of the constellation Auriga; creates floating traffic signs which force whatever touches them to move accordingly.

  • Amélie Godard: Verity's younger sister; a pre-med student, she's an uppity people-pleaser with strong principles and goes out of her way to try and help people, but in an “I know best” way.
    Cats Don't Dance: born of the obsolete constellation Felis; has the power to manipulate a magical spool of yarn to instantaneously heal any injuries, but only for people who have made a sincere promise to her.

The KIBOU Nation

The House of Valley of the Wind:

  • Luci Peele: Head Priestess of the House of the Valley of the Wind. Has influence inside the KIBOU Nation, depsite presiding over a very out of the way shrine.
  • Heraschel Hennenlotter: an older man who resides at the House of the Valley of the Wind. He works as a tailor and employs Ririka as his protégé.
  • Juno Waters: Keeper at the House of the Valley of the Wind. Normally takes charge of craft shops.

  • Pallas Heckerling: Keeper at the House of the Valley of the Wind. Tends to avoid hard work.

  • Vesta Winick: Keeper at the House of the Valley of the Wind. Tries to be nice to Tsukiko and Ririka.

The Laboratory
  • Mavor del Toro: An ambitious and high-ranking member of the KIBOU Nation's Supreme Paladins. He is secretly part of a plot to use the Nova to overthrow the Nation's leaders and assume absolute power.
    Snowpiercer: born of the constellation Aries; freezes water molocules in the air into powerful ice spears.

  • Juliette Raimi: A professor in theoretical physics, and the creator of the Nova. Harbours a grudge against specific members of the KIBOU Nation for reasons unknown.
    Cube: born of the constellation Norma; turns cube-shaped sections of space into portals to a pocket dimension.

  • Lan Chow: a strange woman who works with Raimi on her research, but has a habit of disappearing from the scene whenever is convenient.

  • Sara Fincher: test subject of the laboratory, who was ordered to use her Nova to assassinate Supremee Paladins. She was caught by Tsukiko after one of her victims was dumped in the House of the Valley of the Wind.
    The Evil Dead: born of the constellation Corvus; uses necromancy-like magic to raise fragments of skeletons to possess people.

  • Sylvia Ardolino: test subject of the laboratory; had her "Lobe" stolen by her brother, who attempted to use it for petty reasons.

  • Morgana Shinbo: test subject of the laboratory; produced Raimi's best results.
Glossory for the World of Moonset
  • Scene Star: a human who uses magical powers and can transform into a masked warrior wearing robes made of stardust.

  • Familiar: an object dear to a person which is infused with their hope and used to transform into a Scene Star.

  • The KIBOU Nation: a religious order formed for the purpose of preventing the power of the Scene Stars from being used for evil; and the sovereignty which they rule over.

  • Kismet: a country who ally with the KIBOU Nation; all of the KIBOU Nation's territory lays within Kismet's borders.

  • The Forbidden North Star: the supreme ruling body of The KIBOU Nation.

  • The Grand Orrery: capital of the KIBOU Nation; a glamourous walled city, where each block has beeen built upon ginormous gears as to function as an orrery.

  • The Supreme Paladins: the military police of The KIBOU Nation, who are in charge of responding to or investigating crimes involving Scene Star powers.

  • The Heavenly Market: The KIBOU Nation’s clergy, who serve the public.

  • House: small villages where members of The Heavenly Market live, perform religious duties, and run businesses.

  • Housesitter: in essence, shrine maiden. Wards of the KIBOU Nation who run small stores and pereform ceremonies.

  • Nova: bizarre monsters summoned by exposing specially crafted blades to human blood. They are invisible to normal people, with one usually only being able to see them upon feeding their blood to one.

  • Lobe: one of the swords used to create Nova.
